Web Version of The Catastrophe of Coma

The Web version of Dr Freeman's book is only available in Adobe PDF (Portable Document Format), readable with Adobe Reader version 6 and above. The other format of the book, Microsoft Word, produces files too large to use on the Web. To support at least Adobe Reader version 6, your operating system must be Windows version 98SE and above, or MacOS version 10.2.2 and above. You can obtain a copy of the book in Microsoft Word format, in CD ROM form, by writing to the NBIF requesting a copy and enclosing $10 to cover the cost of the disc and postage.

If you do not have a PDF reader, click here to download the free Adobe Reader®, version 6 or above. You may need to read the Adobe Reader Information page about why Adobe Reader version 6 or above should be used (you can also read about other Adobe Reader topics that may be helpful to you). Suggestions for finding information in the book follow. You may want to hide these suggestions.

  • Major subjects. Click the CONTENTS hyperlink to open the contents file. This file contains the major subjects for each chapter. After locating the desired subject, click the relevant chapter hyperlink to open the file containing that subject.
  • Specific subjects. Click the SUBJECT INDEX hyperlink to directly open the subject index file. Alternatively, open the subject index file from within the contents file by clicking the SUBJECT INDEX hyperlink. Locate the desired subject and note the pages referred to. Then click the relevant chapter hyperlink in the contents file to open the file containing those pages.
  • Author contributions. Click the AUTHOR INDEX hyperlink to directly open the author index file. Alternatively, open the author index file from within the contents file by clicking the AUTHOR INDEX hyperlink. Locate the desired author and note the pages referred to.  Then click the relevant chapter hyperlink in the contents file to open the file containing those pages.

You may elect to print the contents file (five pages), subject index file (three pages), and author index file (one page). Then you can refer to the hard copies of these files to prevent frequent clicking of the AUTHOR INDEX and SUBJECT INDEX hyperlinks as you explore the book further. Using the hard copy of these pages you can also find the chapter (or chapters) containing the references you wish to consult, and open the corresponding file(s). You may want to print the relevant material if your screen inhibits easy reading of PDF files.

Hyperlinks in the book PDF files are indicated by navy blue coloured text. When the mouse pointer is positioned over a hyperlink, the mouse pointer changes shape. The shape change is from the Hand Tool Hand Tool mouse pointer to the Link Select Link Select mouse pointer.  You may want to navigate between separate PDF files (all the chapters and most of the other sections of the book are in separate PDF files), or to navigate back to this Web Version page after viewing a PDF file. To achieve this navigation, use the browser back button and/or the back button's drop down navigation history list.
