Adobe Reader Information

Version

Use only version 6 or above of Adobe Reader to avoid read errors when
using the Adobe Reader to view PDF files. These errors generate an error
message, usually accompanied by one or more blank pages, and any
diagrams are either incomplete or represented by an opaque, blank rectangle.
Downloading

The Adobe Reader download webpage offers a basic version of Adobe Reader
to download if you have a dial-up Internet connection. The file size of
the basic version of Adobe Reader depends on the version but is about
13MB for both Windows operating systems (version 98SE and above) and for
MacIntosh operating systems (version 10.2.2 and above) . If you elect
to include the full version of Adobe Reader in the download, the download
file size increases by at least 7.2MB for Windows operating systems (version
98SE and above), and by at least 6.8MB for MacIntosh operating systems
(version 10.2.2 and above). To obtain earlier versions of Adobe Reader
you need to click on the An Adobe Reader archive
page hyperlink (located at the bottom of the Adobe Reader download
webpage).
Message

As you open PDF files you may encounter an Adobe Reader message asking you if you are sure you want to exit Adobe Reader. To avoid
closing any open PDF file(s) in your Web browser you should:
- Click the check box next to the message text "Do not show this message
again".
- Click the message Cancel button.
Speed of Opening
PDF Files

When Adobe Reader is first used, the Adobe Reader application is slow to load and
slow to open the selected PDF file in your Web browser.
Frequently the Web browser status bar shows the text "Done" but the mouse pointer
only changes shape after a significant delay. The shape change is
from the Normal Select
mouse pointer to the Hand Tool
mouse
pointer. The text of the PDF file appears shortly after the change in
shape of the mouse pointer. You may need to set two Adobe Reader
Internet preferences to ensure optimum speed for opening PDF files. You
should make sure the "Allow fast web view" Web Browser Option is
on. The "Connection speed" Internet Option may need to be altered
to match your Internet connection speed. The Internet Preferences can be
accessed in Adobe Reader by clicking Edit > Preferences... > Internet.
PDF File Display

For Windows only, and for a PDF file hyperlink in a Web browser, the
Adobe Reader default is to display the PDF file in the Web browser
window. If the PDF file displays in a separate Adobe Reader window, and
this is not what you want, make sure the "Display PDF in browser" Web
Browser Option is on in Acrobat Reader. This Web Browser Option is one of the
Internet preferences and these Preferences can be accessed in Adobe
Reader by clicking Edit >Preferences... > Internet.
Printing
PDF Files from a Web Browser

To print a PDF file from a Web browser, you need to use the Print
button in the Adobe Reader toolbar rather than the File > Print command
in the browser.
